Short hotel history
When Tollef Gabrielson Skrede welcomed the first guests at 'Hotel Skei' on the 23rd of July 1889, the hotel could accommodate approx. 30 guests. A few years later the number of beds had doubled. The guest books from those early years contain the names of guests from almost every corner of the world.
In the 1920s and 30s guests were offered hot and cold running water in all rooms, a large dining room, banquet hall, several lounges, a tennis court and good fishing facilities. The original hotel building, timber-built in so-called 'Swiss' style, was later destroyed by fire.
The hotel has since then been considerably rebuilt and extended several times. The last major extension was in 2006/2007 when 24 new guestrooms and a brand new conference hall accomodating 400 people was built.
Skei Hotel is today one of the leading tourist- and conference hotels in the area, with mostly international tourists and holiday makers in the summer months May-September and conference arrangements during the autumn-, winter and spring seasons.
