Weekly excursions
Skei Hotel is ideal as a base for exploring some of the most spectacular and well-known sights and tourist attractions in this part of the country.
During the summer season the hotel operates daily excursions with guaranteed departures to famous tourist attractions in the region. Hence Skei Hotel is a good choice for lengthier stays as well as an excellent base for a number of both half- and full day exciting excursions by the hotel's own mini-bus, by coach or by private car.
The following excursions are operated with guaranteed departures from the 8th May until the 22nd September in 2012 (please note that all excursions are arranged with English speaking guide):
- Fjærland - the glaciers and the Norwegian Glacier Museum
- Geiranger - a fjord cruise on maybe the world's most famous fjord arms
- Briksdal Glacier - Norway's most famous and most visited glacier arm
- Sandane - Nordfjord Folk Museum and old Gimmestad church
- Balestrand - a landmark by the Sognefjord
Drive along the Lake Jølster to Lunde and then through the 6350 metre long Fjærland Tunnel to the Bøyumsdal Valley, where the glacier comes down to the road. Arrival in Fjærland. Here we pay a visit to the Norwegian Glacier Museum with the famous Ivo Caprino’s Supervideograf (225° wide screen cinema.) Then the tour continues to the Supphelle Glacier, the only glacier in northern Europe at such low altitude (51 m.a.s.l.). Then further on to the Bøyum Glacier where afternoon coffe & tea is served at the Brevasshytta Restaurant with breathtaking views to the Bøyum Glacier. Guaranteed departures on Tuesdays.

Geiranger
Drive from Skei through the Våtedal Valley and continue across the Utvik Mountain (local skiing resort) and along the Nordfjord to Olden, Loen and Stryn. Arrival in Hellesylt for a one hour’s cruise along the spectacular Geirangerfjord. During the cruise you will see some of Norway’s most famous waterfalls, including the ”Seven Sisters”, the ”Bridal Veil” and the ”Suitor”. After a stop in Geiranger we continue to Mount Dalsnibba (1.500 m.a.s.), with breathtaking views of theGeiranger fjord, Geiranger and surrounding areas. Return journey to Skei via the Stryn Mountain Road, Lake Oppstryn and Stryn. Continue along the Lake Oppstryn to Stryn.
Guaranteed departures on Wednesdays.

Briksdal Glacier
Drive from Skei through the Våtedal Valley to Byrkjelo, then continue across the Utvik Mountain (local skiing area) to the Nordfjord. Arrival in the fjordside hamlet of Olden. The Briksdal Glacier is situated at the end of the very beautiful Olden Valley about 20 km. from Olden. From the parking area at Briksdalsbre Fjellstove (mountain lodge) the rest of the journey must be made on foot along a good walking road to the ice. This walk takes appr. 45 min. each way. Optional transport by open, electrical “Troll Cars” for this distance (appr. NOK 195,- per person return). This transport service can be arranged from the hotel and must be booked min. one day in advance. The Jostedal Glacier is unique in Northern Europe and has therefore status as a national park. The Jostedal Glacier with it’s 487 km² is the largest on European mainland. The Briksdal Glacier is the most wellknown and probably also the most photographed glacier ”tongue” in the world. Optional refreshments at the Briksdalsbre Fjellstove (not included in the tour price). Return journey to Skei in the afternoon. Guaranteed departures on Thursdays.

Sandane and The Nordfjord Folk Museum
Drive from Skei to Klakegg. From there the tour continues then through the scenic and mighty Våtedal Valley to Breim and Sandane by the Nordfjord. Halt to view the thundering waters of the Eidsfossen Waterfall. In Sandane we will visit the Nordfjord Folk Museum,- an impressive collection of restored and fully intact old houses and buildings from Western Norway, farming equipment, tools and clothing. The new main building has permanent exhibitions and art collections, as well as a small cafeteria for light refreshments. Short coffee & tea break before continuing to the old Gimmestad Church from 1692. Before the homeward journey to Skei, stop for a while at Sandane centre. Drive through Reed overlooking Lake Breimsvatet where we also pass the Norwegian Fjord Horse Centre,- the largest horse riding centre in the area.

Balestrand
Alternative I:
From Skei drive along Lake Jølster to Vassenden and continue to Moskog, the Rørvik Mountain and the Gaular Mountain to Dragsvik. Stops en route to see the spectacular views at Rørvik- and Gaular mountains. Arrival in Balestrand after driving along Esefjorden, an ”arm” of the mighty Sognefjord. Visit to ”The English Church”;- St. Olavs Church from 1897. Return to Skei by hotel coach. Guaranteed departures on Saturdays.

Alternative II:
Journey from Skei to Balestrand as described under ”Alt. I”
Return from Balestrand by boat (appr. 1-hour ”Fjord mini cruise”) on the Fjærland Fjord to Fjærland. Pickup by hotel minibus at Fjærland Quay for return through the Fjærland Tunnel and along the shores of Lake Jølster to Skei. Optional visit to the Norwegain Glacier Museum (tour price supplement NOK 75,- per person)
Price per person: NOK 695,- (inkl. Fjærland Fjord Mini Cruise and coach/minibus transport).
